Down and dirty… 

Who isn’t obsessed with braids??   I love the bohemian feel and a little braiding is the ideal disguise for limp, dirty, or bad-hair-day tresses.

The accessories…

Whether you have thick or fine hair,  the trick to making these braids stick is starting with dirty locks. That means hair  that’s a few-days dirty or dirty-with-product.  These are two texturizing products that you can use to add “dirty” to clean hair.

For a touch of boho, try your hand at a few face-framing braids. Wrapping one or a few braids around the crown, will control any unruly frizz on top, allowing the rest of your hair to hang naturally. It’s a great option for wavy or curly hair and perfect for summertime beach days.

For pigtails that are more edgy than elementary, braid two sections of your hair starting at the crown, getting gradually looser towards the ends (think wrapping hair, rather than weaving).

Braids are sexy, sweet and always a little dirty, so whatever your style feel free to let it shine!

The Chignon, close relative of the Hipster Bun is done in a similiar fashion, just in a different place on the head. You can wear your Chignon on top of the head, in the center back or to the side.  If you’re wearing it to the side, I would suggest low, loose and just below and behind the ear.  There are many variations, the epitome of modern style is messy with a bit of texture. You can personalize this look by adding your own headband, decorative comb or fresh flower. A simple black band will do or if you’re feeling a little fancier check out these beauties from Colette Malouf and Dominique Duval.  The genius part of the style on the video is, the Goody Zig Zag headband he puts in underneath the black headband, which is very hard to find.  This is the new version of that classic peice.
